Colored with natural dyes, it is a truegift of the Earth. These baskets range in size from 4" to 8". NonIndian made. Baskets were first made at least 9,000 years ago - longbefore pottery was invented. Woven from a variety of plant materials bythree basic techniques - plaiting, twining, and coiling - baskets hadmany uses. Flat trays were used for serving food and for winnowingseeds and parching them with hot coals. Deep baskets covered with resinwere made to carry water. Some were woven very tightly for cooking withhot stones. Others were used for storage or carrying burdens.
