This Red Tail Hawk Kachina Doll was made by Milton Howard, Hopi Indian, master Kachina carver. The detail is exceptional. From the fine lines of the feather work, the beaded look in the jewelry to the carving of his knuckles. The time, effort and talent is evident with every stroke of this carver. Milton uses stain to bring out the natural wood grain of the customary cottonwood root, along with paint to enhance and show more detail. For this Kachina, he uses a rusty orange red to recreate the colors of the Retail Hawk. He takes the time, with what you can only imagine the patience it must demand, to feature and enhance every tiny detail line, as is the remarkably small lines he carves. This Hopi Indian Red Tail Hawk Kachina Doll is about 10" tall, 12-1/2" wide and 6-1/2" long. Signed - M. Howard.
