This is an exceptional design from Casas Grandes Valley. The etching is done entirely by hand with machine like accuracy. After this pot was painted, the artist meticulously etched out the shapes and designs from the red paint to reveal the clay beneath. The etched areas not only add detail to the design, but give the surface a sensational sculpted texture. The balance and round shape of this pot conceals the fact that it was hand coiled from natural clay without a potter's wheel. The intricate designs completely surround the walls of this pot and were done without any measurements or sketches. An addition to your collection to be proud of. It stands about 6-3/4" tall, 7-1/4" wide, has a circumference of 22-3/4", and a 3-1/2" opening at the top. Signed by the Mata Ortiz artist Elia Gonzales.
