I-0008-CL Native American Kokopelli Sterling Silver Genuine Turquoise Gold Shadowbox Egg Sculpture by Navajo artist Marty Monte

A majestic treasure of shimmering excellence. This astonishing Native American Shadowbox is made entirely by hand from brilliant Sterling Silver, Genuine Turquoise, and 14k Gold. Each piece of silver was hand cut from Sterling Silver sheet before being bent, hammered, or stamped by hand into the components of this brilliant sculpture. Genuine Turquoise has also been hand cut into the inlay that paves the floor of the miniature shadowbox landscape. Sterling Silver clouds, mountains carefully stamped with a forest of pine trees, and a 14k gold sun set the stage for the vibrant Kokopelli. Perched upon his mesa plateau, the Kokopelli plays the traditional songs of the Navajo people on his gold flute and performs a traditional dance. The foundation of this amazing piece is surrounded in patterns of hand stamped traditional designs. The feet each hold a different hand cut cabochon made from Turquoise, Onyx, Mother of Pearl, and Howlite. This skillfully constructed silver sculpture is solidly built and very sturdy. It is 7-1/2" tall, 4-1/2" in diameter at the base, and weighs 2 lbs, 13 oz. Signed by the Navajo artist Marty Monte, stamped Sterling, and 14k.

Marty Monte is an award winner in Gallup for his amazingly intricate metal work and inspirational designs. Marty is a Navajo silversmith and regularly puts his skill to work as a jeweler. Inspired by a dream, he was torn from his jewelry making duties and proceeded to create this amazing and absolutely gorgeous work. The Kokopelli is a symbol for virility and often thought of as the stork, or baby deliverer, of the southwest peoples. Marty chose this subject as a prayer for the fertility of mother nature, the mountains, and his people. The egg shape design further expresses the theme of fertility and the cycle of life as it provides the framework for the subjects inside. Kokopelli stands on the Mesa between the sky and the earth, appealing to those important parental spirits to bless the land and the people who live in it. The care and detail that Marty has put into this work alludes to the divine inspiration he received. The elaborate silver work honors his many influences and demonstrates his accumulated knowledge and skill. Marty has truly created a unique treasure and timeless work of art.

"The first peace...is that which comes within the souls of men when they realize their [relationship] with the universe and all its Powers...is really everywhere, it is within each of us." (Oglala Lakota)
